   This is the online place to find out  the truth about urban legends. Urban legends are best described as cautionary or moralistic tales passed along by someone who believes the story to have happened to someone he knows or to an acquaintance of a friend or family member. An urban legend is a made up story that gets passed along orally through generations.

    The legends we tell reflect current social concerns and fears as well as confirm our world view. As cautionary tales, urban legends warn us against risky behavior by pointing out what has supposedly happened to others who did what we might be tempted to try.

     Often these stories get changed and twisted to make new legends, as the stories continue along. Some are referrred to as "old wives tales" and some are just common misconceptions, but nevertheless, they are false.
